rigging

All's been quiet around here lately. :) I was going to start another part of my weight animation today but I found a great rigging tutorial for a quadroped in 3D world that I wanted to check out. It said it was intermediate skill level and with my knowledge of rigging already it still took a while to figure everything out. The article wasn't that specific so I ended up really researching what I was doing, which helped enormously. My usual approach to rigging is to just follow what I've been taught and to not really take the time to really understand what it is that I'm doing. So on my last rigging experience I came across some problems that I couldn't figure out why Maya was red-flagging me. And so with this tutorial I took the time to figure it all out and I had great success! The rig didn't end up perfect but I learned a lot about how to go about rigging a quad and also some new technical things I can integrate into my already existing rig set up process. All in all this tech stuff isn't the easiest thing in the world for me, but I'm going to work harder at it. I'm very satisfied with my day of rigging.

  1. congrats! rigging is just all about knowing more things in maya. the rigging tutorial is from a magazine? i may have to pick it up.

sorry I haven't been posting or commenting lately, I've been utterly drained of doing much online - i.e. I've been going out more... mostly lying in parks.

  2. That's awesome that you learned something useful! I always love when that happens - especially when it's something that I've been meaning to learn for some time! Coolness! :)
