Stepping

Well this is certainly more constructive than writing mindless myspace blogs. :)

My first entry here is going to be a playblast of some key poses for a weight lift. I don't really like doing stepped animation, to be honest. It's part of the animation process I've been taught.--the first step is putting in all these kind of key poses and figuring out timing. Well--maybe it's just me, but I can't figure out timing this way. I always find myself converting to spline and yelping at how my perfect poses have gone all haywire. And, are all poorly timed. So instead I've developed the convert back and forth method to get a better idea. This playblast that I'm posting I only converted back and forth one time and I think I'm going to put in a few more poses and alter the timing some more. Particularly at the end--it seems a little weak.

This weight lift is actually part of a bigger story which I may or may not carry out. There are different instances of this delivery man carrying this box in the story, so I figure I'm going to go piece by piece and see how far I'm willing to go. This part is him hauling this gigantic box up to the front door. I got this idea from when I bought my Mac Pro. No one was home to accept the package and when I picked it up at the FedEx hub by my house I thought about the poor delivery guy that had to haul it all the way to my doorstep only to have to haul it back when no one was home. Maybe that's not how it happened, but in my mind it is. :) Mac doesn't disappoint--the box was huge and so is my machine. :P

If it's not showing up it's because I just uploaded it and youtube has to "process it". Check back later, it will be there.

  1. Yay! It's looking good! I like the beginning and the end, good timing - I think that the middle should be held a bit longer while norman is getting his balance once he's lifted the box up. Maybe it'll push him back a bit more. Strong curves in poses always help.

  3. I agree with Tanith about the middle being a bit longer, because I've totally had that experience where I'm lifting something that's way too big for me and I FINALLY get it up and there's this little moment where I'm tottering back and forth wondering, "Oh shit, am I going to drop this? Am I going to drop this!?" Haha.

But it looks really good! As always your character has a lot of personality even for the standard dude. His movements give him character, which is cool.

Sometimes I just LOVE animation! >o<

It's kindof annoying how I have to check each blog for comments on it..or am I just missing something?
