Rigging the Roo [Part 1]
Well, rigging is not exactly something I can show on blogger, so I'll just write about it. It's taking me a lot longer to accomplish because I'm learning a lot of new techniques and trying to combine them with some of the ones I've already learned. So, it's trial and error more or less. But, I have accomplished the IK and FK for the arms and legs. I did a reverse foot setup with a no flip knee. I've never done a no flip knee before and I already like it much better than using a locator all the time for the knee control. Everything else is pretty regular, including the IK FK switch which for some reason is a lot easier than I remembered. Maybe because now things actually make sense to me, hehe. The arms have the no flip elbow as well and a auto forearm twist, which I have also never done before. That turned out just great! All of my iconic representation is hooked up for my FK as well.
Part 2 of the Roo adventure will hopefully contain a stretchy spine hook up and who knows what else after that. :) I've found that I like rigging, I just wish it wasn't so technical. I think that the reason I like it though has to do with movement. It's fun to rig something up that will (hopefully) end up moving. The honeymoon will be over for a while once I reach the skinning phase which feels like more modeling to me. :-/ Once my Roo is all said in done, I think I'll at some point backtrack and learn some Mel. Everything I rigged has a Mel script counterpart to make rigging and production run smoother instead of manually doing this for every character. It would definitely be worth it to do some Mel exercises.
...I don't think there was much English in this entry.
