Fancy

Well--I've been a bit lazy this weekend and had a few events to attend. But I love this blog and I love that I have to answer to someone other than myself because I could of easily spent my weekend watching movies instead of animating, and then felt pretty shitty Monday morning. But alas I have this wonderful blog to add to my conscience which is always nagging me to stay on track. :) So here's a playblast, AND! I LOOPED IT! Oh fancy fancy! I've been using this blog to also track my progress and realized how annoying it was to watch such a short clip and have to keep replaying it over and over again. And if it annoyed me, I figured it would annoy my viewers. :P So--I got smart. :D

I worked on the torso mostly--cleaned up my curves and put in some overlap. I also worked on adding more weight to the hips--when he steps down and up, etc. Next I hope to work on the hands/box and also start to add in the anticipation stuff. Oh I also lengthened the amount of time he spends on that first step and it feels much better now. Once I add in some heavy breathing of sorts, I may extend it even further. Hope you like!

I should also mention that Saturday I was supposed to go to the Bronx Zoo. But with everything going on that day, we opted to wait for a better time since it's mega bucks to get in and closes early until the weather get's nicer. But I was really looking forward to drawing some animals. :D I will.

  1. Ooh hey! That's looking great! The overlapping action is really working well. I still really like the footwork. The only thing I think I'd fix before cleaning it up more is dropping the hips a little when he comes down on the first step. The root just seems to stay in the same place, and I think his knees would need to bend more and bring the hips down as he drops it.

This is just a note on an animation thing I just remembered: An easy way to see that your path of action is good is to put ghosting on a curve (in this case, say the main root curve) and see if it's movement forms nice "S" curves in the animation. Anywhere that it looks bumpy or flat is where you want to fix it.

Anyways, I think this piece is going to be AWESOME when it's finished!

Oh yeah, and take lots lots of photos at the zoo ;)

  3. Yes that little section caused me a bit of a headache, because no matter where I put the root it seemed to look weird. So I left it alone for when I put in the breathing, but i know what you mean. I have to figure it out.

And the ghosting thing--is that a plug in or can I do that within Maya? And if so, how?!

Hook a sister up with some ghosts! :P
